The Kitten was taken to the pound today but with the stipulation that should no one claim her or adopt her, to call me as a last resort before putting her down.  I can’t bear something so sweet and young be disposed of.  Here is the part that got me hardest.  Today is Wednesday and they will only hold her until next Tuesday before euthenizing her!  They are so back logged with abandoned pets that they are destroying animals daily!  The economy sucks but when taking on a pet, its our responsibility to make sure they are taken care of properly and not just left to die by turning them out in the cold to starve.  If unable to take care of your pet, try to find adoptions.  If you don’t have a pet and are able to care for one properly, go to the Humane Society and take one home.

I’m hoping she was just lost and that her family wants her back.  I’m hoping they will call and find her.  If not, I will be bringing her home and begin the slow process of integrating her into the household with my other pet.  I know it means some rough times but who knows…maybe they will surprise me and become friends.  If not, I will still keep her and just juggle their time to roam the house safely.   I’m a sucker…I know it.

I want to share this with you because it does amuse me and I suppose to let you all know you are not alone in your family quirks!  As I mentioned on my Bay City Blues post, a lot has kept me busy.  I have been in my place for a  little over a month and already took care of some repairs before winter.   Each day I sit outside and just look around me, never failing to see something new.  Night skies are clear as can be and there are times I want to rush back inside to look up a particular constellation I have seen.  The wild life is incredible here too.  I have seen animals I have never seen before and it blows my mind.  I like the peaceful feeling I get….until..

Chaos decends…LOL.  I have had a few people tell me that moving this close to family is a huge mistake.  Some are friends and others are family members.  Each seems poised and waiting for the axe to fall.  But I realised something the other night and wanted to share with you what brought it on.  My family has been a huge help in getting me here and settled into my house.  They know that for a time, adjustments will be costly and until I get my feet under me again from the double bills that happen with a move, they have been generous in helping me where they can.  To that end, I feel it only right I do what I can in return.  So I have agreed to cook 3 nights a week to give my mom a break from having to think or stress about it.  I thought it a reasonable request…..

Here is the funny part….they have no concept of time.  I have been beating my inner control freak back with a stick to keep from saying things I will regret.  But it seems pretty simple to me that when you tell them dinner is served at (insert time here) that they all could show up on time.  I mean I have given them a full days notice!  And yet there is always one who seems to screw it up.  I have been “peaceful” about it outwardly so as not to cause undo issues.  However….I feel my inner beast starting to grab at the stick and beat me with it.  My sister had mother/daughter conflict with her own darling off spring and thought she would tell me about establishing rules for my house.  That was quickly and quietly quashed when I told her that her problems were between her and her daughter.  End of discussion. 

But then came the past two nights …dinner again.  Twice.  Both nights had been discussed earlier in the day for what was being prepared and when….both nights were blown off completely.  Mom instead tried to get me to go out to dinner with them when I had already committed myself here based on previous plans.  So my inner control freak pokes it’s cute lil head up and said….”no no…you go out and enjoy the nice restaurant.  I can have a tuna fish sandwich.”  The silence was inspiring!!  I knew I had learned from the best and turned it around on the best.  But here is the cool thing…..no matter what happens, no matter how frustrating, no matter how bad tempers flair or what words are said…..I’m on equal footing with my family.  They might get pissed for a day but in the end, all is well.  They are truly a group that will drive me mad and yet they are the only ones who truly get me and I do them.  We can fight and be mad but in the long run, we all come together and it works out perfectly.  My inner control freak can dance here…in my house where my rules are the only ones that matter.  I can say it aloud when I have to and they may not like it…but they get it.  I love my family.

As some of you may have read on the Bay City Blues site, things have been pretty busy for me.  I have beenin my new place just over 2 weeks now.  I had grown use to just calling the landlord to get things fixed but now I’m the LANDLORD.   I can’t complain however because the few fixes I had to get done, I got done for a great price!  The front window is being replaced this upcoming week and the garage door was fixed and leveled.  I got that ugly fort thing torn down and the stairs to the deck stabilized and all of it for around 350 dollars!   Not bad, at least the house is ready for winter now.

I’ve been adjusting to the area and have learned my way around a little bit.  About a week ago, I went to the Flying W Ranch.  I had gone there once with my dad when he was still here.   He loved that place.   It’s a working cattle ranch and they serve some of the best steaks and there is entertainment too.  Actual cowboys get up and sing some of the old songs with some added humor.  Its really a great place to check out.

It’s getting colder here at night now too.  The nights are so clear you can see the constellations with no trouble at all.  During the day it warms up to the upper 60s to mid 70s and I love to sit out on the deck and watch the planes fly over.   Some are the jets from Peterson AF Base and some are those huge bomber or cargo planes.  In Chicago, I had to go to the lakefront to see planes like that in the annual Water and Air show.  It’s really cool.

I made it!  Finally got moved to Colorado and it’s wonderful.  I still have a lot of unpacking to do but most of the major stuff is done.  I have to tell you that it’s draining.  The movers called last Friday and wanted to pick up on Saturday (two days early) and I figured what the heck.  So I sold my TVs and got rid of them and packed up my office.  Saturday came but the movers didn’t. ~sighs~  Unable to play on the phone and no TV to entertain myself. Colorado beautiful

ok…as some of you know I took a trip to Colorado a couple weeks ago to set up a place to rent with option to buy. I wanted to live there a year before buying because it would give me time to establish my relocation etc. Needless to say, the guy I have been working things out with for the past 6 months on the deal got a bit pissy. So….I ended up buying the house instead!! Scary! That leads me to a whole new level of busy.

I have been canning tomatoes everyday since we got back to assure we would have enough for a couple years.
